Social Media is one of the most powerful means for connecting with other people. It is a Web 2.0 tool that makes sharing ideas, images, and videos easy and gratifying, both personally and professionally. Although there are age restrictions in place to protect children and discourage them from engaging in social media before they ready to, it does not deter kids from getting excited about using it.
This project harnesses that excitement, while teaching key computer skills and etiquette, while reinforcing Internet safety. Students will create posts using a secure, password protected web site that they help build - sharing events and special moments from their summer vacations. Their classmates will then be allowed to access their page to view and add comments - a perfect opportunity to teach and reinforce the importance of choosing words carefully, remembering the vast audience of the Internet, and to use safe practices. Families will also receive a password to view the posts as well, reinforcing at home proper netiquette and safety.
To locate your child's page, click their classroom teacher's name below or use the drop down menu above. A password will be required to enter student pages. This will be shared with you once student projects near completion. If you do not receive one, feel free to contact me to request access.
